You will have to excuse my ignorance but was wondering the difference between a transfer pump, a lift pump and fuel pump? Does the transfer pump get the fuel from the tank to the fuel pump/lift pump? Just wondering.

Second question on 2010 models what function does the automatic gear lever perform when you pull it back towards the driver. Just noticed the other day that it will pull back and was not sure of its purpose.

Thanks.

The terms fuel pump, lift pump, and transfer pump are different words for the same device. It pumps fuel from tank to high pressure injection pump. Some have been engine mounted but since mid-year 2004 or 2005, not sure which, the pumps have been mounted inside the fuel tank.

The lift function on the gear selecter arm of an automatic transmission Ram allows the driver to engage the park position or shift out of the park position. I think it also allows shifting from D, 3, 2, or L position into R as well.

Using the automatic transmission shifter is something I've been doing since the 1950s but it is one of those things we do automatically without thinking about.
