Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) just wondering

I was waiting in a parking lot, and I hear a diesel comming that sounds like crap. Its was a noisy 3rd gen CTD. It parked close to me and when he shut it down the engine kept spinning after shutdown. It lasted about 3 seconds. I know when I shut mine down, it stops right away. But this truck. man you could just hear every thing spinning like it had no compression to stop the engine.



Just wondering what its problem might be

To me sounds like a stuck starter? It would whine and then slowly dis-engage
while its running it would mesh with starter ring.
