2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission K&N 0880 Retrofit

I have a few questions... I just ordered the AFE equivalent to the K&N RE-0880... My first question is, how hard is it to retrofit? do you need some pipe to make it work? I heard it will not clamp on directly to the factory intake hose. my second question, is do you need a shield to block off possible water from getting in the filter? Some people say you do, some not. . If so, what would be the best shape, and how large an area do I need to shield? I would really appreciate any and all replies! Thanks Y'all... .

Well I don''t have a K&N or the AFE,I have the BHAF. You shouldn't have to worry about water,as I have been through lots of it,including lots of snow plowing (snow seems to get in everywhere),and the filter area stays bone dry. A heat shield probably wouldn't hurt though.

The 0880 will fit right in your intake hose but needs about 2" of 4"pvc pipe to make it rigid for the clamp. The pipe will fit right inside the filter, the intake hose over the outside of the filter. If you are going to be running it without any sort of housing I would suggest using an outer prefilter to cushion the bounces. Just pull straight up up on your stock box to make room for the new, that's the extent of your retrofiting. Water shouldn't be a problem.

I would highly suggest you look at the Scotty 2 Air System, in your kneck of the woods it should really help you ouy\t with EGTs...

The K&N is not a direct fit to the factory air intake hose. The factory hose is 4"ID and the K&N Re-0880 is 4 1/4" ID.



Most have their own different ways to mount the RE-0880 and I have seen many different ways to do it. In my application i went to the local exhaust shop and had a piece of 4"OD ehaust tubing cut to 4" in length. One end I had opened up to 4 1/4" to fit the RE. I used a 4"spring clamp on the K&N bought from a local Cummins shop. Slip the small end into the factory tube and tighten the stock clamp. Use the heavier clamp on the RE and tighten securely. now at this point you will see the assembly is a little long,but install onto the turbo and clamp it securely. Using both hands it will slip into the double wall area next to the hood hinge and stay there without moving(this is the area the Scotty amkes its cut to install their product).



Now the moisture deal. I have pulled my RE off after several heavy rains and seen no problem or oil trails to the turbo. In the heavy snow though I have seen it get caked outside with snow and as some BHAF users have done I go back to my modified stock air box in the winter. problem with the snow is not only will it come in thru the side opening but eveywhere else when its snowing heavily so I am not sure how you could protect the filter from this..... Ok... . I got the 4"... ..... It will not go on there... It is Schedule 80, and I am not sure if that has anything to do with it..... I am looking for some schedule 40, or even 20... . the 80 is just way too big for this AFE... . I have ground some off the sides of the pipe, and it still will not go on there... . Can someone who has done this give me a clue???? I would really appreciate it!!! Thanks,

Having never messed with an AFE I don't know what to tell you except that the schedule of the pipe only changes the inside diameter. Take your filter down to the plumbing store and see what fits, it may be the outside diameter of a 3" fitting such as a coupling is what you need.

I used Sewer and Drain pipe. It's real thin and fits right in the end of the filter. NOw, if the AFE is built a little different this pipe might not work. But, it's been on two different trucks for almost 3 years now.
