Hey Guys,

I am getting different stories about my K&N Air Filter, are they going to hurt my engine? Has DC found a problem with these filters? Or is it just a way to sell their own filter?

Your best bet is to go back and read the other posts on the previous pages. There are ALOT of posts about this. The main reason for using a K&N is a huge increase in airflow over stock. They are ok tyo use, my Dodge dealer sells them. Amsoil makes a simialr filter but only a stock replacement. If you want the biggest increase you need to go with a cone like the RE-0880 which replaces the stock airbox altogether or better yet, the Pshchotyy kit.
If you dont go offroad or constantly drive in very dusty conditions, there is no problem with a plain K&N, if you do drive in those place, get the pre filter (part number 25-0880) and you are good to go. Your truck will sound alot nicer too. I got my filter from www.summitracing.com there are other places too.

EDMDIESEL, is the prefilter part number you listed for the stock configuration or is for the cone configuration?

Thumbs up for me, so far.

No problem with mine in 23,000. Dodge was selling them as a performance part.

With all the recent hubbub about the K&N filters, I decided to pull my airbox off and take a good look at the "clean" side of the filter.

I'm happy to report that there was NO dust residue in the tube, and my turbine blades look to be pretty clean except for the slightly oily coating on them (which is normal).

About 22000 miles on my truck, all is well! I ordered a set ot Autometer (EGT, boost) gauges from Geno's today and a full-pillar 2-gauge w/tweeter mount.

You might consider looking at a K&N really close before you install one. Hold it up to the light. They say it improves the airflow and they are right. Why? Lots of open holes as you will see. If you can see the holes you got dirt getting in. 5 microns is all it take to start killin your engine. A friend of mine went through 2 mass air sensors at $400 a pop before he figured out the the K&N was killing him. Just hold a new one up and look through it. I think you will opt for something better. -Mundgyver-

I have used a K&N on my 1989 truck for about 206,000 miles and the engine still runs like new. Right now it performs much better than my new one. It goes from 50 to 90 while the new one is going from 50 to 75. No damage evident. This old truck still uses only one quart of oil in 7000 miles, same as when new.

I have been using K&N on all my trucks and never had a problem. Currently I have the same set-up as Oasis-3.

How do you guys think the AFE filters compare to the K&N in both filtering and flow? I think I need (want) a little more flow. BTW, I have an EGT of about 600 at 70 MPH on the flat and level, unloaded. Is that close to what most of you have?

The main difference in the AFE filters is just heavier screening. I am 99% sure there is next to zero increase in airflow over the K&N's. They are the same design of filter.
