Anyone have one on thier truck?



Are they as good as the AFE?



I can get a great deal on the K&N .



But I have learned not to buy stuff without asking ya'll.

This could be kinda like the oil threads.....



I used a K&N RE-0880 air filter for ~40K miles, switched to an AFE about 3K miles ago. I haven't noticed a single bit of difference, but after I get a few more oil samplings with the AFE, I'll have a better idea if there seems to be any real difference as far as actually filtering unwanted things out of the air... ...



I would say go for the K&N if you have a good deal lined up. Tons of folks have run them a lot of miles with few, if any problems reported on the TDR.

I had one on my last gasser

I worked very well. But, I was disappointed in the quality of the shield. I thought it was rather flimsy. It definitely increased the noise level in the cab. I'd want to look at it before I bought one.
 
I've only had my truck for about 2 months now, and the first thing I did after reading these forums was pull the silencer ring. Then just the other day I built my own air charger with the same K&N filter that they use in their setup. The part number to order just the filter was "RC 4780". It comes with the hole in the end where you just pop the filter minder in and it also has a 1/4" stud on the end so you can add a little support bracket to it to take the weight off the collar. Just used some 14ga. sheet metal we had kickin around at work, bent it up, and a few pop-rivets. Got a piece of 4" exhaust pipe for a connector tube and some black paint and some door gasket and it looks just as good as the $250 ones and all it cost me was the price of the filter... . $84. WOW..... now it is loud... that turbo really screams when you get on the pedal, thinking I might just have to put the silencer ring back in... . NOT!!!!!!!
