How is everybody this evening? I have a quick question about drying time for the factory airbox K & N filter after washing and before oiling... approx. how long?

I just did the wash-out procedure and I think I saw half an acre of good potting soil just come out of this thing! It was impressive.

I'm hoping to get it back in the beast in a few hours and just want to know if this is realistic.

Thanks, Steve

I let mine dry overnight. I wouldn't think oiling one while damp was a good idea. I love my K&N. I too got a whole bunch of dirt out of it when I washed it. On my last Oil Report my Silicon # was 3! Pretty good.

I also bedded my K&N in a bead of grease run around the inside of the receiving end of the box, AND I ran another bead of grease around where the airboxes seal to each other. I used red grease with drop point of 500 F. But any good stiff grease will work great.

In South Florida humidity, it may never dry  ... Here in Las Vegas in July, the water steams before it reaches the end of the hose and you can't get em' wet... . Seriously... It is best to let them dry over night if possible. Trouble is, the oil doesn't make an even film over the gause if it is damp, so it may have spots that let contamination through. An old dirt bike riders trick is to have two filters, and keep one in a plastic bag, but that is a little pricey for these trucks.

I agree plongson! I want a spare too. 4 times I have been just a little too slow on the draw to get a stock box used filter on the "Pay it Forward" Threads!:D

I use a stock paper filter while the K&N is drying.

Really makes you appreciate the increased flow of the K&N, can't wait to get it back on.

rrausch... shoot me a PM with your address and I'll send you a new in the box filter I got with the Geno's kit before I swapped mine out for the AfE mega cannon.

I always try to clean my K&N in the summer so I don't need to wait so long for it to dry. I usually wash it and then set it in top of the air conditioner out side the house and drys in bought 15 minuets, and dose no damage to it at all. The air is not hot enough to shrank the gauze and dose not melt anything.
