I was reading on another post on here that the K&N FIPK is not that good compared to the AFE... I have a K&N FIPK with the filter wrap is that a good combo or not???? I just put the filter wrap on yesterday... I will wait about 3,000 miles to see if there is any debrise in the intake tube... . Oo.

Don't know about the the FIPK, but I've been running a K&N in the stock box for over 100,000 miles and I love mine. In my last oil report, the silicon number was 3!

The FIPK is a fuel injected performance kit, which is the whole intake kit... The filter is the same as every other K&N filter. .

The FIPK is just a complete intake system. It contains the filter, new intake tube, shroud, and all braketry. For those wondering what it looks like check my readers rigs gallery. BTW I absolutely love mine.

Their isn't a thing wrong with the K&N FIPK, it's very well made and works as well as anything else out there. They have a little differant way of doing things but it is not wrong. There are several air intake kits that work great, just they are not as well known in this circle of users. DJ Motorsports has a nice kit for chevy's and fords. Airaid has nice kits that fit all of the top brands, including Dodge. RFI has diesel air intake kits for all makes as does Volant.

The basic design of all the kits are common, and their job is to improve the air flow.

good!

ive got a fipk on my 12v and have had it for over 10k. no problems what so ever. infact i just cleaned and reoiled it a couple of days ago. check my readers rigs for pics

I have ran K&N on both my 98. 5 Dodge and my Jeep in So. Cal. , both were dismal failures.

The Jeep had extensive damage even with K&N’s add on wrap. The Dodge with stock air box and their drop in filter suffered silicon deposits on injectors and other parts. Hmmm, silicon = glass or in raw form is actually DUST.

When you can remove the tube after the filter and and wipe out huge amounts of dirt deposits this may be an indication that their I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER aint working.

Therefore, if you live in an area that you only need to filter out beetles and small birds this product may be just what you need.

There is a huge amount of differance between a drop-in replacement and a new air intake system. K&N drop-in's have been well documented over the last 5-years, they do not seal well and have a bad reputation of oiling the intake.

I think for a stock replacement, the Amsoil cotton gaze filter is excellent. It is only a few bucks more then a factory paper replacement, and does a great job. I have run both and Amsoil filters do it the best. If you do have a K&N you should use a bead of filter grease around both sides of the seal, that will help it seal. They sell the filter grease, sealing grease in a tube. It you think you can use normal grease, think again, it will just melt and run thru the air box.

Personally, I throw my K&N filter away, it wasn't worth the hassel. The smart move is to go with a air intake kit, any of the mentioned kits will do just fine, just get the one you feel happy with. Don't forget to get the pre-filter to match, this is the best part about going to a kit, it keeps the main filter clean and is a snap to maintain, just blow off with air.

K&N sealing

I had this exact same problem in Mom's pickup, as I had thrown my K&N away when I moved back to the swamp. I tried silicone sealant on the sealing surfaces, after their filter grease still let stuff "around" the filter, then let it set for a day before she drove it anywhere. 2K later, there was a fine layer of dust inside the intake tube. Hold it up to the light and I could see daylight through it. Got a new filter direct from K&N, same result- still see pinholes of daylight. I dont think dirt got around the sealant; it had to go through the filter. But, when I was in Colo, I had K&N in my CTD Ram, and a 6. 9 NA Ford, and the intake hose was always clean, even without the sealing grease. If you live in an agricultural area, or the local dust is super fine, the K&N will not perform, period. If the dust is sandier and not so small a particle, or if the engine is NA, you should do ok.

No more reuseable filters for me. Paper only for me. I realize the small amount of dirt in the engine will turn a million mile engine into a 750K engine, but still... ... I might look into a ProGard 7 once I get back out west.

Is there any proof to show that a reusable drop in adds any power? or proof that it can filter as good as the stock paper element? The aftermarket seems to make a lot of claims about more flow but for a drop in I wonder if there is really any benefit.
