BHolm, I remember the old car air filters, factory ones, they were oiled, (messy job) fondly called "ROCK CATCHERS", quite popular in their day.

I have not used K&N ever until I purchased this one. The point I was trying to make was several thing:

When I fabricated my cold air intake from the stock box I had knee jerk comments about how the down pipe would pick up road grime and dust and how the filter would run wet during rain.

The entire time I have had the 6. 7L I have watched and recorded the overhead readings. At first the overhead was not real accurate but with the G30 flash it has been very responsive and accurate. Off about 1/2 mpg.

Here is my real two points.

When I installed the K&N I made note of the larger filter area size. I made a run to Charlotte and very soon I saw the increase of 3-4mpg on the overhead. Time will tell.

Also if you look at the first photos the small amount of blackness on the OEM filter. That is road grime and just a little greasy. Not bad for 11,000 miles of travel.

I am sorry some of you guys have had bad experiences with your K&N. But for me now this filter is a quality filter and built well. I will check the inlet several times just to see if I am getting dust. If I do it is GONE. Oo.
