I have the K&N Cold Air Intake and Down Tube installed on my 04. 5 CTD auto quad shorty. Also have the BD Power Pup set on performance for around town city driving. Man does it pull like a mother... . Anyway I have looked for others that have the K&N Intake and I don't see many. As a matter of fact I have yet to find anyone on here with it. I got it from a well known Diesel expert who has a great shop in Miami and paid nothing for the setup I have, no complaints about that!! My fuel mileage is OK but not as good as I had hoped. On stock setting at 2k RPM/70mph pulling my 10K fifth wheel I get about 12. 5 mpg which is great as far as I am concerned. On tow mode it drops to 11. 2 at 70mph. And stock empty around town it is about 15. 5 city and 19/21 highway at 70mph. I have had this setup for a few months now and the truck has 30,000 miles on it and I keep reading people getting better. Are they BSing or is it a fact. Is the K&N a good intake? I have read pro's and con's on other sites but not much here as I said. Past experience's with K&N have been great on other vehicles I own but not to sure about this one on the CTD. Any help would be great.

I've heard that the K&N Filter doesn't filter enough and if you live out in the country like I do and travel down dirt roads people have had major turbo damage "fins on the compressor side damaged"... Just do what I did with my AEM Brute Force intake and get the AFE pro guard 7 replacement filter. Better than paying $450 for the AFE kit.

I wish my MPG's were that good. You must have a pretty light foot. I have a simular set up with the BDDL, AFE, exhaust, WSB bell turbo and transmission mods..... I would think i could get better MPG's with the more efficant turbo, but i cant keep my right foot up.

Im getting 13-15 city empty..... and less than 10 towing a 10k lb 5ver.

I guess thats the diff between a 4x4 or 4x2?

I use K&N filters on mine. . Garmon sold me one for my 95 as well. . Never any problems. . The only filter problem I've ever had was with my 12''x5'' AFE. It sucked together and took out the seals on the turbos.

Pull your k&n filter and wipe your hand in your intake tube and you will see why hardly anyone runs those on here. I run the aem brute force but it is resrictive in my opion. Everytime I look at the factory filter guage its sucked down in the red zone.

I run one and I am very anal about taking care of it and everytime its off I check the intake tube and it has always been very clean, I dont drive on dirt roads like I used to a few years ago so thats probably why. Also I think JWilliams3 also runs an AFE setup with a huge K&N filter hooked up to it, and most of us know what he does with his truck.

I pulled my cone off today and found a clean, dust/dirt free tube. Anyone who doubts K&N better talk to someone who has one before they say it does not filter well... . It works and works well... Thanks K&N, well done. :-laf

I put the AEM on my '06 and saw the same thing! I also noticed a (large) reduction in turbo response, low end torque and response on the high end. It smoked alot more too. Took it back (only had it for the weekend, all I could stand) The guy said "oh yeh, it will do that to the filter gauge because it draws that much air"... ... ... ... What???? Had him take it off and all was well. I did replace it with a (K&N) drop in but currently rethinking replacing that with another brand after some of the other posts here. I have heard a little about "dusting" issues and it doesn't sound like a whole lotta fun.
