Anybody ever try K & N's oil filter? I've been rotating between Mopar and Baldwin for 2 years, but I bought a K & N today at Kragen with some Dello 400.

Should I put it in tomorrow or take it back??
 
K&N oil filters are designed for performance applications where oil is changed after every race. When used in a street vehicle, you MUST change your oil frequently since they dont filter small particles. This was covered ahwile back in some other threads. I wouldnt even use there oil filters in my street race gassers. They let way too much stuff by.

Do yourself a favor, buy a FleetGuard LF-3894 "Stratapore" filter. They are the best filters you can buy, this is a fact. Genos sells them as does any Cummins dealer. Dont cut corners on an engine that expensive. I am running a bypass setup, but if i was'nt, id have a Stratapore in there right now.

... but your statement is a bunch of BS. K&N oil filters are not even made by K&N, I believe they are a Champion filter - they are also the same as Mobil 1 filters, and have filtration ratings similar to all other common filters. They are perfectly fine for Cummins use; the materials of construction and quality is much better than Fram, for example. The best feature is the 1" nut on the bottom, which makes it easy to get off with auto trans. and A/C, as space is a cramped, and especially if the filter is very tight.

Not only what EMDDIESEL said, but they are not approved for use by Cummins for the CTD, period. Since RobeyRam is still under warranty that is a consideration. And, why chance this stuff? FleetGuard filters are the best, and cheaper. A person does not have to be employed at NASA to figure this one out.
 
Ok, i guess K&N does not know what they are talking about then because they are the ones who told me NOT to use one of there racing filters in my everyday driver Impala.

K&N "Gold" series and the racing series are NOT the same. Gold is a streetable filter since it filters finer particles.

I dont know which version the thread starter was talking about.

The bottom line is Fleetgaurds Stratopore filters recieved the highest rating for oil filters for the ISB, they are inexpensive, easy to find and the dealer cant even try and give you a hard time. Why would you use anything else. And a nut on the bottom of filter does'nt help the way the oil filter sits on an ISB. I convntional oil filter wrench is fine.

And Drag Racer, Someones opinion is not "A load of B. S. " You are entitled to yours, as am i. I got my info from K&N directly, do you know more then the company who makes the filter? Do you work for them?
 
I've been using them with no problems. I order mine from Diesel Injection Service in Lubbock, TX. A case of 5 is $37. 50 / $7. 50 a filter. They were rated just below the Fleetguard filters, and were equal to the Mobil 1 filters in a past issue of the TDR. I don't recall the issue number. The 1 inch nut on the bottom is great. The Performance Gold Filter is not a race filter. In my opinion it's a quality filter. -Glen
 
Hey Glen, Just out of curiosity, if the you know the K&N filters were rated below Fleetgaurd, why are you using them as opposed to the Fleetguards? the difference in price is . 95 cents.

Just wondering?
