What problems, if any, have any of you experienced with the K&N air filter for the stock air box in sealing to the box? I noticed after 2K miles that the inside of the air elbow to the turbo had a grey film on it and the turbo compressor wheel fins were darkened. I used the tube of Super Lube and smeared it on the silicone seal around the filter, and ensure that all was tight. What gives?

K&N uses a heavy rubber gasket that does not compress very easily. Combine that with the flimsy plastic stock airbox lid and you can get a distorted seal. Thats why the tell you to use grease to be certain there are no leaks. Not many airbox lids are as big as on the Cummins Ram so it makes the problem worse.

K&N sealing

Checked filter out last evening. I also spoke with the engineer at K&N and found out that the lube is to prevent sticking to the air box as well as sealing minor imperfections. I used lithium grease as he suggested, put a bead (small one) around the lid and then test fitted it to the filter. After removing the cover, I had a nice imprint of the seal in the grease showing positive sealing. Test drove it and it ran fine. I have had the filter in there since before my last trip to Kansas City and it seems to allow more air to the engine, and pulls great on our VA/WV hills. Thanks. :D

I used 2 k&n's before this BHAF and they do flow ALOT more air then stock filter for sure! Just dont over oil when you clean it.
