mberry, I too was hoping for more response on this.

The KDF 3600 is sold through a firm in Quebec. I don't know if they manufacture it as well? I live in western Canada and I received a flyer from a west. Can. supplier some other items that included this generator. Their price in the flyer is $1998 Canadian. That may seem a little steep but 1 Honda 2000inverter is around $1300 up here. I googled KDF 3600 and found an old craiglist price of $1500 out of Quebec.

The weight on this unit impresses me. A Honda or Yamaha of this size I can not handle any more.

I am still looking into this. If I hear more I will put it on here.

In a photo of one of their dirt bikes, the engine was labeled Lifan, which is a Chinese manufacturer of bikes, ATV's, generators, etc. I'd be wary.

Their info says that the engine is from the same factory that the Yamaha uses, but doesn't say if Yamaha builds their own or gets them from someone else. They tout their "unique" auto throttle that adjusts the engine speed based on load, but Honda and others do that too. I got my Honda eu3000 on Craigs List for $1200US with about 1 hour on it. Perfect condition. I bet if you looked hard enough, you'll find the real deal Honda at a fair price. At least, then you'll be confident in what you're getting.

our neighbor has one i looked it over, there is not much difference in weight to watts output between them and others, i settled on a china made one . just make sure it is generator true sine wave inverter type. trailer life has an article on comparison of some models in the august issue. as far as your question , yes it is the same technology i had it ,mine and a honda on the bench with a load and an oscilloscope they work as advertised

Thanks CKelley1 for this information.

One of the things that appeals to me is the lighter weight of the KDF. What is missing from the KDF when it looses around 50 pounds. As a rule when Honda and Yamaha build their products they have quality without unnecessary weight.

Still looking.

The Honda does not adjust engine speed based on load. It has an 'eco throttle' which can be turned on when load is minimal and engine speed can be reduced. If you put much of a load on it, you'll have to manually turn the switch back to normal and the engine then resumes it's set operating speed. I don't know for sure, but I believe the Yamaha operates the same.

For some reason, the ex could not figure out that she needed to turn the thing back onto normal speed when she was making toast or coffee in the 5ver!

none of the three i tested ran at constant speed they all varied speed with load including the honda model. they have a 3 phase altinator hooked directly to the motor , the output is rectified to dc and then inverted back to single phase 60 cycle ac , this allows the units to vary speed with load where generators have to run at a constant speed to get the 60 cycles, most picked 1800 rpm some picked 3600 rpm other rpm's available but these two are the cheapest to build. because these units are independent of speed and use solid state components to generate the sinewave it is easy to lock the trigger pulse on two units to parallel two of them and most have the kits to do this including my china one

Starkmr,

I would like to respectfully disagree. My Honda with the eco throttle does,in fact, moderate engine speed with the load. When hooked up to my RV I always run it with the eco throttle on and as a matter of fact the only reason we turned it on last time we were dry camping was to use the coffee maker. The engine picked up when needed and slowed down when it wasn't needed.

One of my neighbors bought the cheap Chinese knockoff (Kipor brand name, I think) and it does the same thing.
