First - this site has got the be the best $$ spent now that I have the truck! Thanks!

I've perused the older threads on the KDP - I still have 2 questions.

1. Is there only one dowel pin for the whole front cover? Or is there only a problem with one?

2. The 3 bolts that could be loose - are they easily accessable or do you need to remove one of the gears? I didn't find any explaination as to where they are.

opps - I lied - one more question.

What years is this a problem - I read that they changed the case in 98 to a blind hole. Does that mean the problem exists from 89-98? I'm asking this since my father-in-law has a 92 and I have a 96.

Thanks!

Dan

As I understand it, the other dowel pins are not in holes that are drilled through like the KDP. On the 1st Gen forum there has been more talk about the bolts falling out than the dowel pin as far as I could tell by reading their posts on the subject. That would be 89-93. Cummins says they changed in early 1998 but others say they made some 24 valve motors with the drilled through hole too. If you wanted to tighten all the bolts, I believe you need to remove the gears which is no small job. Most are just checking those that are visible with the cover off.

As far as I can remember, the only people that posted about their dowel pin coming out were the 94-98 12 valve. I don't know if it can fall out of the 89-93, I assume it can but the only guys that posted about problems on the earlier trucks had bolts fall out.
