I just read another thread about the KDP fix, which I've already done. I read that the bolts in the case were also loose. I'm assuming that these are the bolts located behind the gears. I never checked mine to see if they were loose :confused:

Is everyone using loctite on these as well? I don't think I've ever read of a bolt going through the gears yet, am I misinformed?

I don't really want to do this again heh. :{

I have seen bolts pretty loose, especially 94-5 years because they didn't have any sealer on the threads. I remove the 4 out of 5 you can get to (2 in the open, 2 behind the cam gear), spray and blow dry the holes, clean the bolts and blue loctite them. You might never get it apart later if you use red loctite. I also check the two cam retainer bolts and the 4 oil pump bolts.

I've haven't heard of any failures due to loose bolts inside the case but if you're in there anyway you may as well Loc-Tite and tighten. I personally wouldn't take the cover off just to check the bolts. Where does that end, there are plenty of hidden bolts in your engine that could be loose. For what it's worth Cummins makes no mention of checking the bolts in their service instructions for containing the dowel pin with wicking Loc-Tite.

They should!! Im one of those guys that had bolts so loose it was scary!!!:mad:

I had mine done yesterday at cummins and none were loose

that goes for the pin also. Ah -- but peace of mind. Before hand they told me that the bolts can get loose but did not mention a damage issue.

There was a thread here in the TDR forums a while back about an incident where the bolt actually came out and did a number on engine - broke the camshaft.

Thanks for the replies,

I don't think I'm going to worry too much about it. After all, like was mentioned here before. . you have to draw the line somewheres, I've tabbed the KDP and am happy with that.

Now I've got to decide whether or not I want to go with an espar or spend the money on something else. :)

Thanks again. .

When I had my timing set at RMC in Billings, I asked the mechanic if he had seen any of the dowel pins come out. He said no, but had seen a couple of instances where bolts come out and broke the case!
