Tabbed the KDP this week. The pin hadn't moved yet with 152,000 miles. The engine build date is 11/13/98, which was Friday the 13th.

Also installed a fluidampr harmonic damper. The orignal damper did not look bad from the front, a little rubber was sticking out, but on the

engine side the rubber was being shaved off by the oil pan.

I haven't driven the truck much since installing the damper, but I can already tell the clutch engages smoother.
I plan on writing about the before & after in a couple of weeks of driving.

Hello, Radyvolk
I see this is an old thread, but did you ever do a write up on the Fluidampr? My damper rubber ring is starting to ooze out, and am considering an upgrade to a Fluidampr, and am looking for opinions on the matter from those that actually use/used one.

I can hardly believe its been 4 years and only 16,000 miles since replacing the damper. All I can say with the low number of miles I have put on the truck is it still runs smoother than the old damper.

Thanks for the reply. Smoother is better and I plan to keep the truck a long time, so I guess I'll get one coming.
Thanks again for the input.

I put a Fluidampr on my '98.5 automatic. I noticed if I have OD off and get onto the highway and don't hit the button right away it doesn't sound very strained rolling along at 2700+ RPM. Also when I tach it out accelerating quick it's definitely quieter than it used to be at 3400 RPM.

Loren,
I installed the fluidampr some time back, probably 5-6 yrs and around 45k miles ago, presently 228k miles on truck. The stock one was still pretty good but I noticed the rubber was deteriorating, squeezing out on front and back, the alignment marks were real close but off maybe a 1/16” so I went for it. On first fire-up I immediately noticed a smoother idle and just all around the engine ran smoother. Highly recommended, I think I got mine thru Summit for around $425, I also think a stock replacement was either similar in price or slightly lower, forget. For the $425 I think it was well worth it. BTW unless you are running high RPMs (over what it will do stock) don’t bother with the pin kit (pins the dampener to the crank), just make sure to torque to specs provided. Enjoy!

Thanks everyone for the input, I now feel better about spending such a large sum. Just had to make sure it was worth while, and it seems there's no doubt about it! My truck is stock in the performance arena, and I plan to basically keep it that way.
