I have been reading on here about the dowel pin in the timing cover that falls out. Ok im a newby cummins owner so bear with me. What happens when it falls out? Why is it so expensive to fix? How do i prevent it from happening? What tools or jigs are you used to do preventative fix and where do I get it? Sorry for all the questions but if i dont ask Ill look like a Ford man !!!Thanks

Andrew,

Go the the top of this section, click on the 12V E. & T. FAQ. Lots of reading on all your questions. You can also use the search feature and type in want you want to find.

Oh, and by the way, there are no stupid questions!

Amen to that!

There are just the stupid, self serving comments that sometimes get thrown around from those who have "heard it all before".

Welcome to TDR. Lots of good folks here.

Andrew,

E-mail me at -- email address removed -- for instructions on how to block the KDP.

Why is it so expensive to repair? The front of the engine has to come off as well as the cam has to come out. All that just to replace the timing gear cover. Really, not a small job. Around $2300 at most shops.

I reccomend getting the Jig from your local chapter as soon as you can. I just did mine, it was a walk in the park. took me about 1-1/2 hours and I spent 30 minutes trying to get the fan off!!!

Then if you are ever bored or have the front cover off, you can tab it and tighten the bolts in there.

If you want any other info on this, you can PM me also. Im willin to share.

NorthEast KDP Jig is available now if you are interested, Andrew. Reply with a post or a private message to start the process.
