I'm on the waiting list for the NW KDP jig, and I still have no idea where this pin is or how much of a PITA this job is going to be. What's it called in the service manual (I doubt DC would call one of their parts "killer") so I can look it up?

Darel

"IT" doesn't exist in the service manual. However, if you go to chapter 9 and get to the diesel section you look up the part about R&R the gear case cover, and that will almnost walk you through it.

There is a lot of GREAT info from many people on this subject here.

Grab a cold one, sit down at the computer and search for KDP and peruse a lot of great info and links! Including part numbers, pictures, tools required, etc etc.

This club is the BEST $$ ever spent on my truck!!.

Thanks, that helps a lot! Do you usually have to pull the cover to check if the pin wandered before you drill through it?

I don't know the answer but,

Darel,

If your going to pull the cover, you may as well plan on the "tab" fix. My crank seal was leaking so the tab was an obvious solution. It takes longer time wise but it is not that bad of a job.

Of course, it will cost you more for the seal and a new cover gasket. The thing is, this way you can check your bolts as well.

Hey Darel. The idea behind the jig is to prevent you from having to pull the cover. 1 hour job vs. 1/2 day job. I'm glad I pulled my cover because my pin was out 1/4 inch. It is only 1/2 inch long. Almost bit me in the a$$. The reason I pulled cover was to change the front seal. Figured to kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Just doit!

Only if the pin is out more than 1/8", very few are. If the drill included with the jig doesn't go in up to it's stop you can continue with the jig fix except for putting the retaining bolt in. There is a short bolt with the NW jig so if you run into that problem you can seal the hole until you have time and parts to remove the cover pound the pin and finish. That's what makes the jig fix easier and cheaper than the tab fix. There is no need to remove the cover, buy and replace the seal and gasket. Entire jig fix takes two hours max if you're slow, 45 minutes normal, requires only common hand tools and the only parts needed are included with the kit.

E-mail me if you need part numbers, prices, pictures, etc.

Also call me if you get into a bind while your doing it and I'll help walk you through it.
