Did the KDP jig fix on my '97 three days ago. Reached through the hole with a sharp bent end pick, probed for the pin (or the hole where it was supposed to be) found the head of the pin about 1/16" below the rim of the hole. Apparently it had never moved. Called one of my sons-in-law who owns a '99. We both thought the 24 valve engines were immune. Searched the forum, found posts on trucks up to 2001 1/2 that had KDP fixes. We did his '99 today, and the drill went to the stop, but it felt like it touched something going in. Did the probe and found the pin out far enough that when I tapped the hole, I could feel the flutes on the tap just bump the top of the pin. The socket head screw went in smoothly, so we closed it up. The pin is dead.
I don't know when Cummins corrected the problem, but the '99 still had it for sure.
I am new to TDR and the KDP scared me enough when I found out about it that I couldn't wait to fix it.
If you're not sure, jig yours or open it up and tab it. The first one (mine) took me just over 4 hrs. , The second one (with son-in-law help) took less than 2 hrs.
