One of the guy at works has a 99 CTD and developed a leak on the front of his engine. Checking it out, it looked just like mine did when the KDP fell out and busted the timing cover. It at the local dealer. Just a crossed the hall is the diesel service tech shop and one of thier students is taking a industrial 24 valve CTD apart. The same dowel pin as mine 12 valver was almost all the way out. Guys Check your Dowel pins!!!!!

Drawson,

This sounds scarry:eek: where is the dowel pin and is it easy to check? Probably a stupid question - Oh that's right the only stupid one is the one not asked. ;)

Its inside the cover over the timing gears. Do a search on KDP and you will find a lot of info. 2 ways to negate the problem, pull the cover and put a tab under the bolt thats right next to it (which needs tighting on most trucks anyway) which blocks it so it cant come out or try and get a KDP jig from someone which is for drilling the case and putting a long set screw down in front of the pin so it cant walk out. Pulling the cover is 3-4 hours and the jig is 1-2 hours.

I thought I read on this site a year ago that the 24 valve dowell pin is in a "blind" hole and can not fall into the timing gears. I hope this is the case.
