I am doing my KDP this weekend with the tab method. I already have every thing apart and my pin is out approxmately 1/8". My question is about the vibration damper. There is what looks like a magnetic pickup or sensor that reads off of the vibration damper and is adjustable. It is attached to a bracket thats bolts to the gear cover. Is there a required gap that needs to be set between this sensor and the damper?

Thanks in advance,

Terry

Yes it has to come off, you can use the bracket and a notvh in the balnacer to hold it while you break the bolts loose if you don't have a barring tool, when you install it the gap is . 053 with a non-magnetic feeler guage.

Thanks Jim, I plan on finishing up this morning. It will be a good feeling not to worry about the KDP any more.

Go out & purchase a Haynes manual at AutoZone or some place. They have dome excellent photos of the front end being taken apart, and in a few of them you can actually see the KDP. They show the adjustment you are talking about, & how to set it.

What was your mileage with the pin 1/8 out?

I am keeping tabs on all who have had there pin move and comparing it to mileage, year and so forth.

Well all done, and it went well. grtescpa I have 80,000 on my rig and the pin moved back in flush. JFulmer, thanks for the info, I set it at . 053 and all runs well. I am glad that this is now done and I can enjoy my bombing with less worry. :)
