I am hearing a lot about the infamous "Killer Dowel Pin" on the 12 valve motors. From a lack of posts talking about it on the 24 valve motors I assume the problem has been fixed from the factory on the new motors. I would appreciate your comments and experience.

from what i have read on this site the problem still exists in some 98. 5 and 99 24V. i have a 99 and this is a concern. :mad: this is what i have to say to cummins on this subject:-{}

Anyone ever hear which 24 valve's were at risk for this? I assume there is probably a serial number or something that was the cut off point.

thanks,

The 98. 5 and newer trucks have the gear case with the blind hole in the case to keep the dowel pin in in case it starts coming out. The only thing is, that they used up what older gear cases they had before starting to install the new ones. There is no telling when the old ones ran out in 99. Wouldn't hurt to check and see for your piece of mind.
