OK bear with me here and see what you think... ... ...

At 96000 miles i took my truck in for a bad oil leak... hehehe... ... I'm stationed in Utah so i took it up to Layton Hills dodge and they called me back and said that the front timing cover was cracked and they had to order a new one from cummins. Anyhow i had suspicions as to what might have caused all this mayhem:rolleyes: The "mechanic" told me he had never seen this on a 5. 9 (yeah right) anyways he told me he'd have my truck for a week and half until the new part came in... ... but he couldn't go 20 minutes to the cummins house in salt lake and get one..... then he didn't even offer me a rental car... ... OK to make a long story short they fixed my truck and all i paid was 40 bucks for a new fan belt..... but now 7 months later i go to change the oil pan gasket (which they assured me was not leaking along with the rear main which is being replaced too) and what do i find wedged in between the pan and the oil pickup tube but a KDP... ... ..... i checked it out an d it had been there a while because it had dang near wore a hole in the pan and rubbed a nice gash in the oil pick up tube... .....

My first question is if your having warranty work done are they supposes to give you a rental car?

If they knew that the kdp had gone through the front of the engine why did they not bother to find it?

i now have 103,000 on my truck and i am still extremely happy with it but i blame an oil soaked clutch that slipped on LAYTON HILLS DODGE... ... ... SORRY BUT I NEEDED TO GET THAT OUT... ... . anyone in Utah don't go to Layton hills dodge if you can avoid those "mechanics":--) :--) :--):--) :--)

I think most people assume (myself included) that once the pin falls thru, it will lay harmlessly in the oil pan.

Sorry to hear of your troubles

well i guess it did lay there harmlessly... i just assumed since they knew they would have gotten it out ... ... ya know just less of a chance of anything to happen... ..... what wouldve happened if it wouldve rubbed all the way through the oil pickup line? would i have lost all oil pressure on the top half of the engine/turbo/injector pump? They just made me mad caus ei took it in for oil leaks and they did a half assed job... ... . they didnt fix the pan or the rear main... ... ... . Ive always had qaulity help down in texas, oklahoma, new mexico but i guess they couldnt find my spark plugs or something... . :D
