Well the kdp got me last thursday, blowed the gear housing apart like usual. Im just glad that it did not get down to the crank gear. All the parts cost me $349. 91 to fix it myself, and then it took 10 hours. I called cummins and am raising a stink, mainly cuz Mike Kell (regional rep) tried to tell me there was no design change in the cover to prevent this problem which he has never herd of (Early warning number E03003 posted by cummins january 23 2003). Plus I clearly see a change in design from the cover I took off, from the cover I put on.

parts

where did you get your parts from i spent alot more than that but i had to get mine time. i think i spent 420. 00 just on the case. i think cost is 240. 00. nice mark up.

Guys:

How do you know when the KDP strikes? Will it just quit running without much noise? Will oil always be leaking from the front gear housing?

Thanks,

John

It won't usually cause the engine to stop running but you will get a pretty good oil leak from the case directly behind the center of the fan. I've only heard of one case where the pin actually jammed in-between the gears and broke the end off the camshaft, engine stopped running on that one.

interesting that you would actually want to know the symptoms! if yours has not let loose, you would have to be an idiot not to get it fixed immediately.

My neighbor lost the gear off his 92'. I have to ask him again if it was the dowel pin or one of the bolts coming out. I forget which one. I know he ended up replacing the head too.
