Con FE question

Well the KDP struck a buddy of mines 95 on his way to work this morning. Made a NICE size hole in his timing case, and he said it was still lodged in the top of the case!

Told me he just loosened the top of the timing case and was able to remove the pin with a pair of needle nose pliers.

I had to go to work right after he called from work about an hour away to tell me so I haven't been able to see the destruction.

The reason for this whole post however is to see if there is anyway to round up a new cover for CHEAP. Does anybody know where I can lay hands on one for him?

Thanks.

ouch

Do as he said, if it didn't take a piece out of it. DRawsen broke is along time ago and used JB Weld on his and it is still holding, or was. with his rebuild he probably replaced his case by now.

just my penny's worth.

Just finised a bad one.

A friend of mine lost the pin on his 97 on Monday. It took out a 4" piece of the cover, then got to the oil pump and split the idler pulley shaft out. We put a new cover and oil pump in it and finally got it back together last night. PM me if you want a price for a new housing. Another customer lost his pin day after chrismas, he elected to use JB weld to fix the crack in his housing and it is holding just fine.

I saw one case that had been JB welded. It broke again there, and vibration caused the case to break under the vacuum pump, giving him a two piece gear case that leaked two places. Also broke one of the bolts holding the pumps to the block from vibration. You need to do the whole job with a new gear case, imho.

Hey Mark,

If you can get the cover down to me in LaVergne or Murfreesboro, I can get it welded up at work. We got some very talented welders and all the equipment needed to weld it. Plus, some of the guys do owe me some favors. PM me and let me know. I have a meeting in Hendersonville on Tuesday afternoon and could pick it up then. Don't know if your buddy can live without his truck that long.

With all we know about the KDP why are your friends trucks not fixed??????????????It's not if, it's when.

Because no one in the area has a jig, and he won't drive to the closest one we know of... ... BMD in KY.

He's gonna fix it now, and I found a source for cover's for $200. Oh well he bought his mom's 1500 gasser to drive a while back he can afford to have his truck down for a while.

For those of you who have not blocked your KDP there is no reason to mess around. You don't need a jig for pete's sake. Just install a blocking tab. Very little more work than the jig and a better fix. If the KDP gets you, it's your own fault.

Joes RIGHT!!!! True the timing case cover is only $200 but he is going to spend about 30 hours getting it off and back on. Not an easy job for a good mechanic.

I figured I could take my cover off now on my own terms... or wait and take it off under the KDP's terms. Either way I figured it would be coming off. My friend lost his on the 5th floor of a parking garage and the tow truck couldn't lift and tow it out cause of the concrete low beams. Had to push it out to ground level.
