I called a bunch of places today for the replacement bolt to hold the KDP tab.

It seems as though the metric bolts are not rated the same way as the SAE bolts.

When I asked for a grade 8 bolt, I got a confusing explanation on how the metric bolts are differently rated.

Does anyone know the proper grade bolt to ask for?

The guy I spoke to said he has a socket cap screw rated "12. 9" :confused: that "should be about grade 8" :confused:

He said that none of the metric stuff will have the "gold coating color, or the six likes on the head indicating grade 8". (as stated by someone on this board. )

He went on to the metric grade 8. 8, 10. 9 and 12. 9 explanation, but he lost me long ago.

I know it's an M8x1. 25x25mm but what grade should I get? Will a socket cap screw be OK?

TIA

Eric

10. 9 is what's in there now. If you can't get the bolt you need try this;

Thanks Bill. I saw Joe D's post, but if I did that I'd have to go to Cummins to get a bolt that matched the others being it would be in a highly visable location. :rolleyes: Having a new shiney unpainted bolt there would bother me. :D

Besided, I'm thinking if it was pre stretched, I dont really want it under the timing cover near the gears.

I'll get the 10. 9 unless I have to order 100 of them.

Thanks again. :D
