Question, I have 210k on my CTD and have never heard about a KDP until I started read and joined TDR. Should I even worry about it now with so many miles and not having a problem?

Hey Tommy,You have the same truck as I do. I have 212 k miles on mine. I tabbed mine at about 170 k miles and it was already out 1/4 inch. Better take care of yours. ;)

Tommy, Welcome to the forum!

Borrow one of the jig kits that are available here and do the job. (I could have told you who to contact a couple of days ago but now I'm not sure) It's really pretty easy and will give you TONS of peace of mind.

I've been here just over a year and have seen about a half dozen guy's misery when their pin came loose. It makes a big expensive mess of an engine. Some of them thought like you said - "it's come this far so it's OK".

You can see what my truck is in my sig, and when I bought it with 83k on it, the KDP was over 1/2 way out.

My advise to you is fix it before it falls out and does expensive damage.

Mike

It is totally cheap insurance. Having to remove the gear case is not fun stuff. There are a couple ways of doing it, you can either tab it or use the jig. I don't know the details of the jig, but i would be afaid of some etal shaving getting into the motor from drilling. If you tab it, you have to take of the front cover and when you do this you can change the from seal at the same time. Its up to you which way, but it needs ot be done.

I would think anyone with it un-tabbed should be concerned. It is such a simple fix, there realy is no reason not to take care of it.

Thanks for the input. do any of you have a jig or know where I can get one. How long would it take to tab it. Reason I ask is I think the seal around the cover is bad. there is oil and gunk on the btm of the engine starting at the front. But then the bolts could just be lose. . Any help on locating a jig would be great... Thanks Tommy

Welcome to the TDR!!!

Tell us where you live, then someone can tell you who to contact. I jigged one of mine, haven't made time to do the other two yet.

I have been a member just a little longer than you and have already gained so much knowledge!

The KDP may already have done its dirty deed. The only way you can tell is to take the gear case cover off and look. Take a look at the URL I posted above to see where the KDP should be and the kind of damage it can do.

Are there any instruction out there that walk you through installation and parts list for tabbing the KDP. I don't think mine is out yet but don't want to take any chances.

Tommy:eek:

Tommy,

The caretaker for the jig here in N. C. was Keith (Rammin On). He has since moved to Missouri, but I saw a post last week where he passed on the jig to a fellow TDR member in believe in PA to be the caretaker. Do a quick search or maybe Keith will see this post and respond. It was just last week so it should be easy to find. Cya

Ok. I have found a guy that has a Jig and will do it for me for 150. 00. He will not lone it out. Unless you guys and find me one to use I guess I will make the drive to Ga.

Tommy,

If you have to take the gear case cover off to fix the crank seal or fix a leaky gasket or to check to see if the KDP has got you already, then using the jig doesn't make any sense. The purpose of the jig is so you can block the KDP without removeing the cover. If you are going to remove the cover anyway you might as well make a tab for a few cents and install it. If you wan the instructions for doing the job and making a tab e-mail me. It's about a two hour job and will cost you a little over $50 for parts. TST Products is selling a kit will all the parts needed including a tab. I don't know what their price is but it should be reasonable.

If you have a few tools and some light Gage metal , you can fab up a tab pretty easy. . Once you get the cover off, and do some measurement, cut a small tear drop shaped tab , drill a hole in it and use the existing cover bolt to retain it... Use a drop of lock tight on the bolt...

My pin was about 1/4 out and easy to move when I got to it...

just my 2. 3 cents

Thanks for the info guys. Joe got me the info and Diagram for the tab. I am going to make a tab and put it in. Thanks to all.
