Before I did mine in August of last year, I did a search of this forum and found a post by a guy with a 2001 1/2 that he had to fix. I don't remember any details, though.

The KDP is something you don't want to ignore. Broken camshafts and stuff like that if you are unlucky enough for the pin to fall into the cam gears.

My son just replaced a 5. 9L ISB that had the pin fall into the gears. Cost the customer $9,000 for a reman engine complete with all accessories and wiring harness plus labor to do the job.
 
the KDP can fall out of the gear case for production B engines up to some time in calendar year 1999. Don't forget to remove, clean, loctite, retighten the bolts inside the case also. There are 5 holding the case to the block, 4 for oil pump, and 2 for cam retainer.
