what is the best material to use to make the kdp tab? I'm worried that a brittle metal will crack with the vibrations and cause equal damage. Also, on the metric bolts, what number on the back is equivalent to a grade 8 bolt? I'm not sure the bolts I got are long enough to replace the tab bolt.

Thanks

The screw you need is 8m x 1. 25 x 25mm. I don't know the code for the hard one, I just got it from the box at the hardware store with hard metric screws. A hard one may be overkill for this, but I feel better using one. Just use mild steel for the tab. Don't use a piece of saw blade or something like that.

Is it okay to use 1/4" angle iron for this tab. I have some of that. I believe I read somewhere that someone used a putty knife blade. Not sure on that one. Don't want to use the wrong metal and have it vibrate and break off, thus defeating the purpose.

tab fix

would a circular saw blade be to much over kill. its made of chrome molly of some sort about . 70* thick.

A saw blade is NOT a good idea. It's too hard and the vibration of the engine will cause it to fracture and break.

not trying to be difficult but,--i have read the discussions on the "saws all" blades being to brittle, but i was thinking that the circular blade 7' dia. might serve the ticket. do you still think it would be to brittle? being stated as before. made of different type of metal.

thanks for your time.

We know that mild steel works fine. Some people have had problems with saw blades. The idea is to block the KDP. It is not going to move out with much force, just creeps out from vibration. The new style gear case blocks it with aluminum. I would not take the chance with saw steel, but if you think it's ok go for it. It's your truck.

A circular saw blade would work but would be tough on your drill bit and cutting tools. Mild steel works just fine.
