I'm thinking of putting a Past Time camper on my truck - a basic model - that weighs about 1500 lbs with fuel and water batteries - no personal gear..... here's my ????? - the load is light but the air resistance is there - does anybody have an idea of how much a fuel hit I'd take with this setup - currently I can get 19-20 on the road... . and 15-16 around town with my lead foot... ... I also have an above cab (8 -10 inches) pickup shell... ...

Probably about 1/3 drop. . the weight is one thing and the over cab front os the other... Above 60 mph, wind resistance takes over as factor of fuel mileage... so you might get like 15 to 16 hwy and maybe just a little lower city as weight don't pay much to it ovr h weight of the truck... like 12 to 14 city. . again pushing fast and hard will lessen the mileage so slow starts and cruise speeds.....

Wind Resistance

With 1K LB trailer going 55-60 I get 15MPG. With the camper on (5K LB Loaded) doing 55-60 I get 12MPG. Going 65-70 I get 10MPG. I don't think you will see much of a drop in economy with the light load. I figure you will drop 2-3 MPG. The faster you go... so does your fuel. LOL

I can get 14-15 with camper listed below. It is appprox 2200 dry wieght.

Last weekend I had camper, and was towing car hauler with Jeep on it and going 70 mph I got 11. Had a slight headwind also. Best advise is to slow down to 60-65 mph...

All other things being equal, my camper costs me about 1-2 MPG in town and almost nothing on the highway (because I drive slower on the highway with the camper on). If I get much above the speed limit (or 2100 RPM), my highway MPG starts to drop of sharply with or without the camper. I've probably get about 1/2 of the additional frontal area that you have though.

I'll be putting my camper on next week and keeping it on until winter. Sure is nice to have it ready to go for weekend trips. Keep all of the gear in some totes ready to toss in.

I had a 2000# Northstar popup on my '99 24/7. It got 14 mpg. every tank mixed driving. 15. 8 was the best I could get on the highway. I had an EZ,Mach 1. 6's,and DTT transmission. I got 14. 6 on my '07 mixed last tank with Smarty on SW#1. The truck only has 2400 miles on it.
