I live on a farm and will be putting my truck into storage (barn) for the winter. Mice are always a problem..... so what/where are the holes for me to plug in my cab to keep the little varmits out? My dad had a mouse make a nest in his heater fan, and it cost him 600 bucks to fix. I think just the fresh cab air is all I will have to worry about. I also hate mouse poop on my seat. TIA. I got a new 04. 5 so I can now concentrate on making the 98 a little faster. :)

You can't plug the holes... . they can squeeze through almost anything. Plus, you don't want them chewing on your engine wiring.

I use Bounty/other brand dryer fabric sheets stuffed around the engine compartment. Other farmers around me use them as well. They don't like the "fragrance", so for long term storage I'd put some around the interior too. They lose their effectiveness after a couple of weeks so you'd have to keep replacing them.

Do a search for other ideas... . there's been quite a bit posted on this over the last several years.

keeping mice out

Hey Swamp,

My dad had a 67 vette that he mostly had parked in the garage. He used to put Irish Spring bars of soap to repel the mice, they supposedly don't like the smell. He would put it in the interior, under the hood and on the floor under the car. I guess you could cut it up and put a chunk at each tire on the floor.

Over on RV.net lot of folks use the dryer sheets too for their campers. I read one guy does this with his restored car every winter too. I'm trying it this year. I like the idea of the irish spring bars for long-term effectiveness.

Do like we do for storage with air planes - get a plastic fertilizer barrel and cut into stripes about 6" wide, split in one place and put around tire. It won't keep the robbins from building a nest under the cowling in the spring, but it will keep a mouse out of the "house". !! Oo.

It's not only mice you have to be wary of. Last year a red squirrel took up residence in the air cleaner box! He pulled a lot of the insulation from the engine compartment and stuffed it in there. The only clue I had was when someone asked if they could see the mighty Cummins and along where the injector lines are, were several fruit pits and pine cones!

Good luck,

Richard

I have a lot of trouble with mice in my vehicles. I have not had any trouble with them getting in the cab of the Ram. They have destroyed my hoodliner and found a way into the bed, I have a toneau cover.

I use traps baited with bacon fat tied on the trigger. Mice are persistent so you may not fair so well, good luck.
