Who's running 255 85 r/16 and how are they holding up.

I just picked up a set of Kelly Safari MSR 255/85/16's on my 01 2500. I put about 500 miles on them this past weekend in the mountains (some towing, and some empty) and I am impressed. They ran great on dry pavement and I couldn't hear them over the engine. Ice and snow traction were great (a million times better than stock michelins). Now, we'll see how many miles they last. I got 57,000 out of the stock michelins. I paid about $135 each including mounting, balancing, new valves and old tire disposal with lifetime rotation. I'm hoping to get about 25,000 miles out of them but the traction more than makes up for the mileage tradeoff.

i've got 285's

and love 'em ... approx 30k miles (according to previous owner) ... have half tread left ... i beat 'em pretty good ... still smooth riding and good in the winter ... get driven on a gravel road every day

I had a set of 265/75R16's on my '01 Duramax (see sig) and I really liked them. They pulled real well off road (we have mud down here and no snow at all so no experiences there). I put them on when I bought the truck with about 41k on it. When I sold her at 70k there was still about half the tread left or maybe a little less. The vast majority of the miles on the tires was highway miles towing my flatbed trailer loaded with about 10k lbs of horse hay for a total trailer weight of around 15k. I'd definately buy another set.

My father used to work at Kelly Springfield, so everyone in the family would run their tires for loyalty and employee discounts. I absolutely love the MSR, good mileage and traction. You shouldn't have a problem getting 40k out of them from the sets I've run. I've been told of up to 80k, but think that may be a little optimistic. The only thing I don't like about the MSR is the fact that they don't make a size above the 285 for 16" wheels.

great news on the mileage. If I get anywhere near 50,000 miles out of them, I will be more than happy. Traction is great! I do like the 255/85's. I have run 285/75's (buckshot mudders) for a short period that I could feel rubbing the control arms. I really like the 255's. just my . 02

Another thumbs up for the MSRs. On my second set. The first set had 54,000 miles on them and probably could have gone a few more. My truck is driven on dirt and gravel roads every day.

I must have just had bad luck with the MSRs I had. I ran 285/75R16s on my truck for a while. The first set, I got just a little over 25K on them before they were down to not much tread left. This was some towing and mostly highway driving.

The second set I had started giving me some trouble with walking side to side. You could feel the rear of the truck shifting side to side when you hit a uneven patch in the road (not bouncing, just like the tread was slipping on tire... sort of like a severe amount of sidewall flex). They warrantied the tires for me and I switched to the BFGs I have right now. The dealer said that he had seen quite a few cases similar to mine.

Other than these problems, the tire performed well. Had great traction in the mud, cleaned out well and were very quiet.
