I recently bought a 2019 2500 that came with only one key fob. Has anyone had to get an extra key fob for their 2019 or newer truck as I guess the fob's are different from previous models. I have a feeling if I go to the dealer I will get roughed up financially and seeking other options.

This would be the perfect time to get AlfaOBD. With Alfa, you can find a Fob on Ebay or Amazon and program it yourself and with the money saved, payed for Alfa! It's a win win. You can have as many as 4 and you'd be able to make sure there isn't a Fob floating around that works on your truck. AlfaOBD will also give you the ability to read and clear codes. I programed 2 extra Fob's for my truck, a buddy's 300 and helped a guy with a 2019 Jeep. You'll need the security bypass cable and a Bluetooth dongle like the MX+. Alfa only works with Windows and Android. No Apple products. PM if you need any help.

I have the Alfa and MX+ already but I'll have to get the bypass cable, I appreciate the help. I may have to hit you up if I get high centered on anything.

Unless something has changed, I don’t believe you can program FOB’s on the 19+ trucks with AlfaOBD.

It's listed in AlfaOBD as being able to and I helped walk a guy through it with a '19 Jeep with push to start system. I think the latest update may have gotten it figured out. Security bypass is a must.

Good to know, thanks.

Are the 19 Jeeps the same as the HD’s, and no longer use a PIN?

When I purchased my 19, the dealer lost one FOB, it took an act of congress to get one. They are initially programed at the factory with the VIN in mind. Then it is finished programming at the dealer with the vehicle. You can not reprogram one for another vehicle, they tried. It took 9 months to get my second FOB, national shortage, thank you Covid. The dealer gave me a loaner to tow my fifth wheel to Florida for a 2 week vacation, because I was throwing a fit about traveling with only one FOB. If I had lost the only one I had, I was dead in the water.

My FIL had the dealer replace one that he lost under a policy he had bought with the truck. Had a locksmith come out and do it, so AlfaOBD should be able to do the same thing. Just need the security bypass cable for the '18+ trucks. Just have to be mindful of the style of ignition that you have. Push to start is the highline system and the key type Fob is the base line.

This must have been pretty recent, since not that long ago locksmiths couldn’t even do it.

@AH64ID, Was early last year when he had it done. It was an insurance deal since he had lost one. The software that the locksmiths use is done with the manufactures help and cost BIG $!!!! He didn't tell me how long it took for them to do it. He had me get a security bypass cable for his truck to have in case he needs any help with something.

I found out today that AlfaOBD is still not able to program key fobs on 19+ HD’s. JScan is able to thou.

I dont like fobs, dont carry or use 'em

:D set in my ways old fart.
I'd be fine with a regular as well but it's not an option for the newer trucks. Probably a lot cheaper to get a key made than get a new fob programmed, we are looking at $250-$400 to get 2 of them.

Must be in the works for next update. Developer had an Android table issue with pin number request on the RF hub. He's gotten that fixed and thought he had the Fob programming in that patch. I'm sure it'll be in there shortly as I can't imagine that there can't be much difference between the Ram and Jeep ignitatin setups

A rolling pin would mean that you'd need to pull it every time you were doing something that needed it. What happens if you aren't using the App for the truck to tell you want was need to be done? No way for it to be able to connect to Ram. If on company can pull the pin, others will be doing also. Comes down to we have the right to fix our own trucks and can't prevent use from doing that! Just ask John Deere about that! If we were to screw up our own trucks, it's our own fault.

Not sure what to tell you, other that it's a rolling pin and why it's taken years for any aftermarket key fob programming support.

Just an update for the thread, It now seems that the latest update to AlfaOBD has got the fix for the 5 digit rolling code on the newer trucks! Just make sure that you check to make sure you're running the latest version. If running a tablet for Alfa, there was an apk file that wasn't working correctly. Alexy has been working his butt of to get this fixed!!!
