2006 qc, 152000km. Yesterday, drove a short way from home, parked the truck for 45 min, then tried to start it. Was able to power up everything but the starting circuit. Nothing doing, trying several times. Called home for the spare key, tried it, first time, same as the other one. Tried it a second time, engine started, but so did the alarm (honking horn, flashing lights). Had to shut it down to stop the noise. Worked ok on restart. Has anyone had a similar problem, or can anyone offer some insight?Went to the dealer this morning for new batteries for the keys. They said have it towed back when the problem happens again.

when it wouldn't start, tell us the exact method/procedure you used.
(how many tries what type of key, how long ti was on, did it crank at all, did it just run for about 3 seconds, ect. )
it matters to see if the issue is electronic (chipped key) or mechanical problem (wire, harness, ignition ect. . ).

There was an issue with one of the cables on the 06's, I think it was the starter cable. It would rub thru and create a small short. When the TIPM sensed an overload too many times (something like 400) it won't allow a start. It takes a new starter cable and TIPM to fix.

There is a flash for the tipm to increase the

Solenoid from 75 to 100 amps I am not aware of any cable

When it happened to my dads they said it was a cable (I want to say the main starter hot lead) that was shorting out. I never did see what all was replaced.

I had the same problem on my '08 a year or so back after hitting the door lock button. Turn the key and ZERO activity but the lights and all else worked. Turns out it was the computer for the locks and vehicle security, there is a large white fuse under the hood that if you pull it and wait 20 seconds before re-installing it will reset the system for a while. I mentioned this then so it is somewhere on here, the fix was a new computer.

A short in the Batt cable would have done some welding/melt down it is not protected by any fuse. The solenoid wire is protected. At the dealer level warranty does not pay enough for a tech to do much searching for a root cause. That is why the TSB's come out imho. It will go after the root cause

and also save the corporation from spending any extra money to fix it right the first time

That's it. . Interesting that the dealership told my dad he had a starter cable short, they also put a new TIPM in and not just a reflash. . Maybe his was more than just the standard issue.

Mine was due to a module that would lock up. Was a TSB on it and was replaced under warranty. The module had to do with the Sentry Key and Keyless entry. Happen a few times. I'd pull the fuse with the yellow holder on it, wait a few seconds and pushed the fuse back in and the truck would crank.

If I remember correctly, a static shock from your body/key would cause the module to lock-up and cause a no crank issue.

Never happen again after they replaced the module.

I had the same issue with my 09, module locked up for the keyless entry. My wife unlocked the door with the key and set off the alarm which I could not turn off with the key at that point. I had to disconnect the batteries and upon reconnecting averything was fine again. Dealer replaced some module and all has been fine since.
