key info on late model mopars

This is probally a gen 2 question but ill ask here first



My sister has a 2003 Dodge Caravan some body , i guess a tech .



told her not to use the copied keys that came with the van , only

the oem key as the van will run for 3 hours then completely shut down



I personaly think the guy has been sniffing too many tail pipes .



i have never heard of this , has any one before ???????????

I know my mom's 98 Lincoln has copied keys tha twill only open the driver's door.



I'd think it may start and run 3minutes, but if it runs 3 hours, a thug could get FAR FAR away. i dont buy it.

if the vehicle is equiped with a sentry key theft deterent system the it will crank and run for 3 seconds with an unprogrammed key. if you do that more than 3 times in a row the vehicle will go into theftlock and will be unresponsive. quickest way to tell is if the key is grey headed or has the transmitter made into it (keyless entry) it has to be programmed. if its just the old black headed key, no system, no problem.
