Key question

I seem to have lost or misplaced my keys. Is this something that only the dealer can cut? I have the spare set but I would like 2. The truck is an 04. 5 SLT

Call around and find a lock Smith that has the tools to cut and program the key for your truck. This is a cheaper way to go than the dealer. Although the dealer may be able to suggest one that they use.

I also have a 04. 5. I have had people tell me that if I have a key cut it will only work to lock and unlock the doors. I had a couple keys cut at Lowe's and they will open and start the truck just fine. Have one made and try it out before you go spending all that extra money.

If the keys have a gray end then there's a factory alarm or immobilizer and the key has to be programmed for your vehicle (usually by the dealer). If the key has a black end then any old cut key will do. You can always cut a key for $2 and see how it goes. Still handy to unlock the truck.

Well disaster was averted and I found my keys. We have just moved so we have stuff all over the place and they ended up under something.

I do have a grey key but I was unsure what years required what kind of "programming" to work.

Go to a locksmith and get a copy made . This can only be done if you have both keys . One of my keys has gotten "misplaced" by my wife so I am screwed now.
