OK... I admit I've been had... .



Bought a new rig with the entry system on the key, not a seperate fob... .



I just bought a replacement key... . got to always carry a spare... well the new Jeep (chrysler key set) has a chip so the key I bought turned on the switch and started the engine for 2 seconds... . So I wasted 97 cents... .



Is there anyone in the aftermarket making these keys discounted... .

That's one way to test your SKIM. Apparently you don't have to wonder whether or not it will work now! I wonder if the standard grey sentry key would work? Those are quite a bit cheaper and if you are only using it as a spare, that wouldn't be too bad. The standard sentry keys go for about $20 on Ebay. Good luck!

Jim, my understanding is that the grey keys are all chipped as well. So if you have a grey key on any of your trucks, they are chipped even if the keyless entry is on a seperate fob. Check with some locksmiths, I recall these guys can get chipped keys, but you gotta figure out what freq you need.

If you have two chip'd keys that already work with your truck, you can program more chip'd keys by doing it yourself. The procedure is described in the owner's manual, and also has been posted in this forum, I think. Most large, full-service locksmiths can sell you an unprogramed chip'd key, which they will cut to match your existing key, for considerably less than a dealer. Then, you do the rest.

My dealer gave me a chipped key and cut it free. I programmed it as stated in the owners manual. Ask your dealer if they will give you one and you do your own programming.
