My 08 SLT 2500 has 2 factory Keyfobs and the VALET key. The VALET key will start the Ram, but then it shuts off after a short while. All is normal.

The Dakota, the VALET key will not only start the truck but the truck will keep running. What gives?

What year is the Dakota? I know the older vehicles (2000 and older at least) the Valet keys would operate the driver's door and ignition only, back then the cars (Chryslers anyway) didn't have programming to recognize a specific key and shut off at a predetermined time.

I don't have a valet key with mine but I do carry a key in my pocket that will open the door. I was told when I took delivery of the truck that if I tried to run it with the cut key everything would quit working and it would have to be hauled to dealer to reset the security system. I have inadvertently started it with said key and it shuts off pretty quick. bg
