Has anyone tried to install the keyless entry system and/or alarm that you can get from Dodge parts on a 2001? If so, how did it go? I have power locks/windows on my 2001 2500 QC and I'm thinking of adding these options if it can be done by someone with average mechanical ability without tearing up the wiring system.

Also, if anyone has a recommendation for a good aftermarket keyless entry/alarm, that goes in easily, I'd appreciate that info too. :)

Do a search. This has been gone over quite a bit. People have talked about the avant guard from clifford. The dealer one is around 5 bills installed, 3 bills carried. On the other hand some have used one from JC whitney for $30. I plan on going with the clifford myself once I can spare to part with my truck for a day.

I just installed the Mopar EVS II Plus sytem on my '99. www.Mopar4less.com had far better prices than my local dealers, and much lower than the prior post claims. I might also add they are excellent to deal with (ask for "Ed" in parts).

As far as the alarm system goes, I chose to go with the factory system because it is engineered to work with the truck's wiring - all of the wiring plugs right in to existing connectors, and it works with factory keyless entry electronics, etc. The installation is not terribly difficult, but it is kind of tedious. Overall, I am very pleased with the quality and engineering of the system, and would recommend it.

The Mopar part numbers you need depends on what original equipment is on your truck. They have different kits for trucks that have no power locks or keyless entry, or power locks and keyless entry. In my case, I have power locks and keyless entry, so my alarm system came in 2 part numbers. One is for the alarm components, and the other for the wiring harnesses. You can get the part numbers you need from the main Mopar website - www.mopar.com. My cost from Mopar4less was approx. $200 out the door.

Yes, I installed it myself. The instructions are pretty straightforward and easy to follow.

Functionality - the kits come with the alarm black box, a siren, valet switch, override button, a shock sensor, and the wiring harness. The system arms itself when you lock the doors with the key fob (chirps the siren and flashes the parking lights to confirm), and also has an automatic arming setting. The shock sensor sensitivity is adjustable. When the alarm is triggered, it sounds the siren, flashes the parking lights, and disables the starter.
