Hello,

I have factory keyless entry on my 1998 truck and I bought a couple of used remotes for spares, do you have to go to the dealer get them programmed? If so, what is a reasonable charge for this?

Thanks,

Kent

yes you do. I'm not positive on the charge, but i bet it won't be less than an hour of labor. Keys are very expensive, i always ask for spares to be made as a part of my "bargain purchase" at the dealer.

If you have access to a factory service manual it has the instructions for programing. On my '97 I had to ground terminal #1 on the data link, turn on the ignition, and push the bot-ton on the remote, I don't know if the '98s are different

On the '01 it tells you how in the owners/operators manual. Really simple. Maybe your's can be done without going to the stealer. My service manager didn't know about this, of course.

I recall on my 98 none of the functions like rolling locks, horn on lock, etc could be programed without getting the dealer to do it.

In 99 on up you can program all this stuff without the dealer.

The 98 also did not have the ability to check codes with the odo either.
