O. K. my truck did not come with keyless entry,, but because it has power locks I can added it for 75$...

I bought it, all I have to do is install the modual... then I have to have the computer activated... anyone know of a way to do this without paying the dealer 35 bucks???? or is there no way around this one

Illflem said he got a nice one from J. C. Whitney for under $50. . Has anyone put an aftermarket keyless entry on their 03 yet?

I did the same thing and you do indeed have to get the dealer to program your computer. While he's at it, you might also have him change it to a Canadian via the computer so your day time running lights work.

Why would he want to do that? I'd pay extra to NOT have 'em. I ride my Harley lots more than I drive the Ram, so I think that anything that makes motorcycles LESS visible should be avoided. Having daytime running lights on cars and trucks does that. JOIBO!

Keyless OR No Entry??????

Today i locked my Keys inside the truck. I went and got my wifes keys, lucky i was a short walk. I was telling a crowd about it and I mentioned getting a Extra key Made. One poped up and said it would cost $85. 00 to get a key made with the transmitter chip in it... WOW... . Could this be correct?????

If you have the Security Group, the key is called Sentry Key and has gray plastic. It is thicker than the regular key which has a black plastic wrapper. The truck computer has the capacity to program several more keys--see the service manual and owner's manual for details. DON'T try to start the engine with a non-chipped key. Six tries and the system shuts down until you use the correct key. See the 2004 Owner's Manual, section 2, pp. 11ff.

The keyless entry is a simpler system with the black key and it is standard on SLT Rams in 2004.

I was just going to say the dealer ought to do it for free. At least around here they do. :D

About to get mine done in a couple of hours. Getting a Clifford alarm and they are taking care of the door locks and all at the same time.

Thefts around my area have gotten real bad. I came back from a trip recently, and they stripped my Jeep of its bumper, winch, doors, CB, antenna sitting right in the driveway.

Job Done

A locksmith here in Dallas ordered an aftermaket "chipped" key for me and cut it along with a few entry only chipless keys and it cost around $40. Then we went out and programed it per the owners manual. I was pretty tickled with that versus the $85 I had also heard about through the dealer. :) I use a chipless key as a hide-a-key so that my truck can be entered, but not driven away if it is somehow found.

It connects to the back side of your instrument cluster. It comes with good instructions too, took me about 15 minutes to install.
