Can you program the keyless remote to roll-up the windows? Better still, can it be programmed to roll-up the windows and leave a 1" or so gap for ventilation on hot days? I doubt if it will do this, but hope it will.

I would like to have that feature, if the Dodge remote won't do it, perhaps an aftermarket alarm system will. In that case is there any reason for getting the Security Group? Is the Smart Key itself, worth the extra money? Your opinions?

I don't think the Dodge system will do what you want. I know there are aftermarket alarm systems that will roll up the windows and lock the doors automatically, locking the keys in the car DAMHIKT.

There is a SKIM option wich is an electronic key that the ECM has to recive a signal from before the truck will start. Without the key the engine wont start. That is the best system to keep your truck from being stolen in my opinion.

Hello,

Code alarm makes one that will close the windows for you. I don't know of any system that will leave a gap in the windows for you.

Smart key will help keep kids from running away with your truck but a hardcore adult can get around it. Duplicate keys can be expensive.

As for the cost, I concluded an after market security system would provide more features for less money. My son installed one on his new Tundra for under $100 parts that does security and remote start. He did not have power locks so no keyless entry. Some after market security options may frustrate the thieves a little, since they will not know what system they are trying to defeat.

Ok I can only think of 3 ways to steal a truck with a SKIM key. A tow truck not much will prevent that though, replacing all the modules in the truck very impratical, or getting a hold of the SKIM code a DRB and a new SKIM key. Am I missing any ways? With an aftermarket alarm you are hacking up the wiring harness possible causing while doing so. Are normally easy to bypass at least the ones I've seen. I know there are better setups but I still can't see an aftermarket alarm that is harder to defeat than a factory installed SKIM setup.

Smart Key System

It made the news recently when a lady let her baby chew on her keys and he swallowed the transponder button but not the key. She had to hold the baby up so his tummy was close to the ignition so her car would start. They didn't say if she ever recovered the button...

A while ago a friend who is in law enforcement described a system that would plug into the data port and Enable the use of a regular "hot wire ignition bypass methods" and the electronic data device enabled an overide of the "smart key" feature on GM vehicles. He was not specific on who made the data device only saying it was imported over here. I'm sure if it was available to work for GM vehicles that it could be modified for Dodge products. Professional car theft rings/chop shops invest a decent amount of money into making their capture of a targeted vehicle type easier because these cars or their parts bring in a lot of cash on the black market or to just export the vehicle for sale in another country. Thats why I said it will keep kids that just want to joy ride in check but proffesionals will always have somebody or something smarter than the theft prevention technology.

The General Motors system is not like the Skim system. The D/C system has a lot more code where as the GM system only has a few codes. I sure would like to see some confirmation on a scanner that can break that code quick enough to steal a car.
