Suggestions for Travel from Illinois to Dallas, TX

Sold my 30' Keystone Hideout today. After 3 years in a budget-level Keystone RV, here are my observations:

1. The quality was acceptable throughout and the fabrics and cabinets held up well to the kids.

2. The air conditioner (Coleman Mach) was too small for such a large camper at just 13,500 BTU and struggled to keep up on the hottest days when we lived in Louisiana.

3. Tires and outer body still looks new after three years.

4. Good, sturdy build quality using cheaper, but decent materials. MUCH better than the Coleman (Fleetwood) Caravan I had before which fell apart.

5. Had a few warranty issues that Keystone took care of no questions asked.

6. Zero roof or window leaks.

7. Components in the trailer all worked well.

8. Could use more storage space and kitchen counter space.

9. Nice roomy layout.

Overall this trailer was put together well and a good value at $18900 when I bought it new. I would buy another Keystone RV and I recommend them. They make solid RVs at reasonable prices and stand behind their products.

Good testimonial. We have their Cougar High Country and are very well pleased. It is two years old with no warranty issues. I would recommend it to anyone. My wife and I have considered becoming fulltime RVers and with just a small push would sell the farm and take the leap. This is our third camper and our first 5th wheel. Ed

Another +1 from a "budget quality" 5th wheel. I have had nothing but good luck with my unit. Yes, there have been some warranty issues that have been taken care of without an issue.

I bought a new Raptor 36' in 2005, and was Ecstatic... ... ... ... . when I traded it in( What a PILE !!!!) for a new 2008 KZ Inferno 4012, ZERO PROBLEMS !!!! ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT !!!

Thanks for your input. We've been re-thinking this and figure at some point we'd have to come off the road anyway and have some spot to call home; so why not keep what we've got. Even with the aggravation of maintenance, upkeep, etc. we'd probably still be better off to stay where we are, rather than start over in a strange place closer to the kids. Personally, I like a little distance between myself and nine grandkids. Being a continual baby sitting service and hearing everybody's problems and issues is a real pain in the backside at times. X2!! Buying an RV is like buying a car--worth nothing in 10 years while the farm land will just keep appreciating.

Absolutely! Never sell the land for anything that depreciates. I laugh when RV peddlers call buying an RV "an investment". In my book, investments gain in value not quickly lose value as do vehicles and RVs.

I have the same 36' Keystone Raptor. I have had it since 2005. . did several upgrades, added solar, 16" wheels, better air ride hitch, 4, 6-volt golf cart batteries, 2nd A/C, fixed up some insulation problems, added 2" foam panels under the Bathroom and Bedroom areas because of heat infiltration. Also used the foam in the back wall of the pantry as it was in front of the fridge vent with no insulation... replaced the Converter, modified where the TV is, (above doorway. . Built angle cabinet. ) Trailer is a great way to travel. . usually less expensive to tow this and have fun than use hotels and eat out every day. have had it 8 years and no it is not an investment but a fun toy and when an emergency arises (house fire, wild fire, earthquake) , a LIFE RAFT.
