I had 2 replaced, filled out the forms online and submitted them. About 3 to 4 weeks later I received an email from Kidde requesting that I verify I had the affected model numbers, and I replied to that. 2 weeks later I got an email saying the replacements were backordered and would ship as soon as available. In another 2 weeks I received 2 new ones with instructions to return the old ones with the supplied pre-paid FedEx labels using the existing shipping containers. Time consuming but painless.
