2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Lighting Problem

The KDP was a problem mainly for the 94 through 98. 5 year trucks with 97 probably being the worst year. The KDP fix came after 98. 5 with a redesign of the gear case. But as with most companies wanting to be thrifty and not loose any money, Cummins used the older gear cases they had left on the 99's. So, some of the 99's might have this problem. The hole in the gear case where the KDP is, is a stepped hole so that if the pin does come out the step will stop it. Theoretically. Hope this helps.

Unless you bought your truck from a TDR member I highly doubt it has been fixed.

You can't tell anything from the outside, the cover must be removed or the pin retained with a jig.

If it was my truck I wouldn't take a chance.

Unless you positively KNOW that the pin has been blocked it hasn't been.

This is a simple fix that can save an engine from some very expensive damage.

I bought another truck recently, maybe to fix up and sell or maybe to keep, and drove it home but wouldn't even start it again until I had gotten the jig kit and did the procedure. It's that serious. I couldn't sell a truck that hadn't been taken care of to anyone now that I know about the problem.

Do a search until you find a thread by one of the unfortunate members whose pin came out and look at the damage and the amount of work to fix it. You'll become a believer unless you're as dumb as a post.

kdp

I fixed the first gen truck with about 210k

I now have a 97' with 284k, would it have been a problem by now

or is there no time frame on when it will fail
