Killer Dowel Pin ??

i have a 98 12v with 52k on the clock, i have read alot about these KDP's. should i worry about the KDP? i really wondering what years does the KDP really effect? i did a search and i still havent found all the answers i am looking for. hope you all can help.

If the KDP falls out it can break gears and the gear case. The following link is the job it takes to fix the mess if it falls out and ONLY breaks the gearcase:
