Hello everyone!! I hope all is well. As some of you know, I'm repowering a 1989 Dodge Ramchrger with a Cummins. The entire '91 Drive train is being moved over to the RC. Quite a bit is done, but there is lots to do.

I thought I'd put a couple of pics up that show the area of the KDP as well as ask a few questions while I'm in here.

This is the Cummins with the front cover removed...

The KDP is here correct? Doesn''t appear to be moving, but I'm going to tab it to be safe.

I know that there are a few bolts that I should take a look at, but I can only see three bolts that I can tighten. If memory serves me, there is a hidden one that is critical to retorque.

Should I turn the motor to expose some others? How many should I be able to retorque?

This waas a running engine when removed... but it had 240k ish' on it. Not knowing the maintenance records on it. should I R/R the Inj. Pump while it is apart? Anything else?

Thanks guys! I appreciate it.

Not knowing just how long the pump will last and if it's original to this engine, I'd remove it and reseal it. Along with that you'd want to perform any and all internal modifications to said pump.

You will beable to tighten all the case to block mounting cap screws as I understand it. I can't think of any that are hidden. Of coure you'll have to bar the engine over to gain access.

Replace every coolant hose (other than a silicone hose) and water pump. Install a new timing case cover seal and gasket.

Also, a good idea not to just retorque the bolts, but to rather remove the ones you can, clean the holes with brake clean and the bolts with lacquer thinner, locktite of your preference, and then retorque. AAAaahhh, peace of mind, it's a wonderful thing! Good Luck!... Kenny

Thanks guys! I'm trying to decide about the pump. It was a very good running truck that I drove home with no problems, and I was told the pump was built a few thousand miles ago(can't verify that).

As far a the bolts go I take it there are four? One takes a "custom" tool to get to, from the reading I've done. Correct? I planned on removing the bolts, Cleaning and Loctiting them in, but thanks for the reminder, Kenny. Peace of mind is good, no doubt.

Even though this rig will be my wife's, it is also going to serve as a learning tool for me. I want to start learning more about the CTD... and the many optional things that I can do to gain HP, fuel mileage, etc as well as maintenance and fixes. I'm not "a-scared" to dig into this one. My truck... Different story. Not for long though. So far its has been a lot of work, but I'm having fun with it. Once it is together and solid on the road, I plan on Full guages and to start "playin" a bit.

Thanks again, guys.

In the one picture of the pin, it looks like the end may be sticking past the case a tad. If you haven't, tap on it. Was able to tap mine in so that it was recessed into the hole. Then all I did was to peen the hole so that the pin wouldn't work out. Didn't use a tab or the jig. I also had to tighten my case bolts as well.

As mentioned before, the water pump and new hoses wouldn't be a bad idea either.
