Forest City Diesel, St James MO Tornado Update

horse shoe question (animal not game)

I've got the urge for a new handgun. Been looking at Sig and Kimber. Right now, I think I really want a single action. I'm concidering the Kimber compact in . 40. Anyone have any experience with Kimber?

I have the Ultra Carry in SS, that's the one with the 3" barrel. Super compact and holds 8rds of . 45ACP. I shot it next to my full size Govt. model and the recoil wasn't any different, due to the Kimber having dual recoil springs. You notice that on racking the slide back, but not shooting it. Kimber does a great job on their guns, stuff you would have to pay a gunsmith for, to get in another gun. Things like the low profile sights, target trigger, beavertail grip safety. They are really accurate right out of the box. I have no experience with the . 40s.

LOVE my kimber classic ... .

thousands of rounds with only 1 ftf ... that was a handload ...

carry it concealed ... in truck ... atv ... scratched, ugly, heavy ... PERFECT

I have been a fan of Kimbers for some time now, however, I just shot my buddies XDP-45. I must say I was impressed, accurate, no jams. $600 gets you the pistol, holster mags, the whole kit!!! Oh yeah, I believe it takes 14 in the clip!!!!

Worth a look

I dont' have any play time with the Kimbers. I've got my Springfield 1911 and I've spent some time with an XD40. If the Kimber is anything like that XD, pick it up in a heartbeat. I think a 3'' XD will be my next purchase.

The Kimber is a 1911 and doesn't have a whole lot in common with the Springfield XDs. Watch out for the external extractors on Kimbers, they stopped making them due to extraction problems. Get the new version with internal extractors. Also, there are some who have issues with Kimber's ILS system (their integrated locking system) compromising the reliable design of the traditional 1911.

I have two of the older pre-series II Kimbers and they have been great guns. I also have the Sig P226 with a 9mm and 40 setup. 40 is a neat caliber but I don't shoot it as accurately as a 45. May just be the sweet trigger on the Kimbers.

I have the XD subcompact in 9mm. I would rather have the 40 but the price was right on the 9mm.

If you want a good all around defense pistol the Sig, Kimber, and XD will all meet your needs. The 1911 will always have the advantage of a better trigger. Take a look at the Springfield Champion while you're at it.

My two Kimbers are nothing less than perfect, would buy again in a heartbeat. Just be aware the tight tolerances yield excellent accuracy but need regular lubing to function reliably.

I love them for plinking but carry Mr SP-101 or the Sig P-220 for protection because of their tolerance for dirt.

Here is one more to add to the mix:

I have handled the Trojan model (I can't believe they called it that) and it's a really nice pistol. They build them the old fashioned way with no firing pin block and an internal extractor. They are available in 9, 40, and 45. I think I need one! :D

SledPuller, If they have a buy one, get one offer then you can have the free one :-laf

I've shot a couple Kimbers, great guns. I have a Sig SP2340 and love it. Very accurate and well balanced. I've ran about a thousand rounds thru it and not one malfunction.

i love my two team match II's one 38 super and one . 45 many thousands of rounds through both with no problems, i've carryed the . 45 a few times before i got my glock but never the super, the custom 1. 75# trigger is not the best idea for carry but is sure sweet for wacking pins or plates :D . only thing resembling a problem i've had or seen on a kimber is the lock ring for the windage adjustment fell out on one of mine and a couple at my club, a little locktight and no further issues

Thanks for the responses. Several years ago, I was shooting competition with a Sig P226 in 9mm... loved that gun. You all have convinced me that my next one will be the Kimber. Thanks.

WDixon27 - I am thinking of the team match II and wondered if you could offer advice. I want to get into some form of competitive pistol shooting - plates or pins or the like (no idea what that is actually called). I shoot trap pretty hardcore now and would like to get into 1911 style shooting. Would you recommend the . 38 super or . 45 ACP? I shoot a . 45 Para for plinking and am not concerned about recoil. I have a good friend that loads 45 also so my ammo cost would not be a factor. Thanks for the help.

Before you get a Kimber, try a Para-Ordnance. I have a Carry 6-45, and it is the best concealed carry pistol I have ever tried. Even with a seriously trimmed beavertail, the recoil is not bad at all and makes it much more comfortable to wear for long periods of time. Overall a very well made firearm.

I have a para and really like it. But I'm interested in getting into some competitive shooting and prefer the single stack 1911 like the Kimber.

it depends on what is legal for whatever class you plan to shoot in some guns are at a disadvantage, the guys i shoot with are small time and it's pretty much run what ya brung, stock gun for stock gun you gain a round with the super 9 in the clip vs 8 with the 45, the recoil impulse with the super is light and straight back with very little flip even without a brake, 158gr lead rn or swc running a nearly full charge of a nice slow powder like blue dot brooms the pins off from the front of the table as good as my 45. if i can lend some more info let me know
