Okay, three times on the way home the truck died at lights. Had to crank a lot to get it to fire back up. Engine malfunction light is on. All other guages look fine (dont have a fuel pressure guage). Changed the fuel filter and it looked fine (also its not cold here) but it didnt want to restart. Finally on about the dozenth attempt before the tow truck arrived it fired. My guess would be lift pump but I'm no diesel mechanic.

Lift pump, lift pump, lift pump... It may not store any codes, but that is EXACTLY what my '04 did at 78K miles. The factory retro-fit "in-tank" pump is still going fine at 140K. Get it to the dealer right away before it strands you somewhere.

sounds like lift pump.

my truck's Walbro shorted out for some reason and i have no lift pump... but get this... . it runs and drives. only messes up when you get on it past 1/2 throttle!

No, didnt know you could do that. Lift pump was the first thing that came to mind. Its down at the dealer, even though the tow truck driver did try and drop off at the ferd dealer :)

Yep, dealer just called and confirmed it was the lift pump. Time to price spares. I never expected to have one go this early.

Either get the intank pump mod or get a good pusher pump from one of the aftermarket companies. You'll be sorry if they install another filter monted pump like the stocker.

With the mods listed in his sig, I doubt it would be covered under warranty unless the dealer is very mod friendly.

You were looking at someone else's sig. Mine has strangely disappeared. I have no engine mods other than guages.

I have 45K miles and here's what happens. Sat. night it dies half mile from home. Tow home, replace fuel filter (canister empty so I filled it) and runs OK. To work Monday then to meeting Monday night. Dies again in busiest intersection in Spokane! That's about 53 miles. Drain a little out of water valve and starts right up. Make it home after meeting. OK to work Tuesday, but dies on the way to lunch (about another 64 miles). Have it towed to Dealer three blocks away ($45). Dealer replaces lift pump under warantee ($100 deductable). Dealer says DC mandates fuel filter change with pume replacement ($65 part, labor, tax).

You can pick your place in this movie, but the end will be the same!!!

Lemme change the ending for ya a little bit. Get your money back. There's no deduct. on LP's for your truck. 100K emissions warranty applies to the LP. Take your warranty book into the service dept for proof. If the filter change is mandated, they should cover that as well.

Wow, I didnt get charged a deductible and nothing was ever mentioned about the filter at all (though I changed it myself).
