Here is a picture of the hose between the fuel heater and the lift pump on the "new to me" 95 engine.

One would think that the "kink" would be a 'bit restrictive"? Humm.

Quick back story on this engine. Bought it from a guy in California... who took it out of his 95 automatic truck... says it was "down on power". Found out he swapped a 24v and a 5speed in. Wonder how much that cost him!! A Decent TQ converter and VB plus a fuel plate... he would have been WAY ahead of the game.

Oh well

Here is a pic of the fitting where I am assuming the heater hose went... Is that a cummins part? or a generic parts store piece?

Also a pic of the throttle linkage... looks like it broke and was booger welded up. Is that the TSB that people talk about?

One last thing... I've read that the 95's came with the HX35... this has a WH1C. Did the early 95's still use this? The CPL is 1959

This engine is destined for my 88 Chevy V30 conversion. Still trying to get a NV4500 and a few related parts from a guy down south.

I am still looking for an intercooler/hoses and need a dipstick, alternator, air cond compressor, and idler pulley.

With 180K on the engine... only oil seepage I see is around the valve covers and some down by the PS pump area.

Eventual plans would fuel a fuel plate... of course gauges... and possible a diff turbo. This will tow up to 10K in the colorado mountains... currently I live at 7K feet... so... need to figure all this out.

Used to have an 06 Cummins with a g56... I want as good or "better" ;) power than that! ha ha ha

OK... back out to clean up and make a parts list.

At stock or near-stock fueling levels (like under 300HP), you aren't pulling enough fuel through for that to cause a problem. But if you're worried, disconnect it from the pre-screener and cut 1/8"-1/4" off, then reinstall. The Ray Davies will be gone.

Geno's has the hose... it is like 25 bones. I knew that was a back yard hack deal... but was curious if it would decrease power. Not that an 160 pump is a screamer.

Hoping to replace the hoses and get as much done/fixed before it gets dropped in. Any thoughts on that water fitting with the nipple busted off?

Oh yeah... I believe that the wastegate is rusted open/closed... I should be able to move that rod by hand correct?

Thx

I know of at least one case of a kinked hose causing fuel starvation on long up hill pulls. Best to put the correct Cummins part there.

Hmmm. I recently bought a new one from Cummins and it had the kink in it after I installed it. Cut about 1/4" off and it was much better.

I think that kink might be a mechanical speed limiter. :)

I eliminated my fuel heater completely. I bought some of the fuel injection hose, that has the blue lining on the inside. I installed the hose from the steel line at the firewall to the fitting on the lift pump. You will need to get a different fitting with the proper size hose barb to match the hose from the steel line. I was going to gut my fuel heater and decided to eliminate it completely. While you are replacing the supply hose, I would replace the return hose, too. It is best to remove the bellhousing bolts that hold the steel lines to the transmission. I think the supply hose is 1/2" and the return hose is 3/8".
