I got an e-mail from a friend the other day that had an internal corporate safety bulletin from the company she works for. It said they have had a high incidents of tie rod end failures on 06 and 07 Dodge Rams.

Anyone hear anything like this? I suspect maybe it's 1500's rather than ours? And, didn't they change something on those for 06?

I had to have tie rods, ball joints and shocks replaced at 40k, then at 88k had to do it again but also had to have the steering knuckles replaced. I thought dodge had corrected there problem. Note on my signature i installed a steering box support and also moog ball joints, and i am at 150k. Good luck.

rbattlle, I have read that thread, and participated in it. But that recall seems to be limited to the steering stabilizer mount and the pitman arm. But, I have heard people talk about a new beefier tie rod, yet it doesn't seem to be addressed in that recall.

If you also read the threads about the "New Steering Kit" I think you will see how they are related. If you don't have the new steering kit I would highly recommend you look into getting one--either through warranty or purchasing it yourself. I think you will find it is a good investment in the long run. As part of the kit you replace the tie rod and tie rod ends and inner tie rod. The new steering stablizer and the pitman arm are optional but are recommended with the new kit.

The pitman arm is NOT optional. The angle is wrong if used with the new linkage and undue stress is placed on the tie rod end.
